The Ascari A10, a striking example of British automotive craftsmanship, was crafted by Ascari Cars in commemoration of their 10th anniversary. It's a road car derived from the KZ1-R GT race car, which competed in the Spanish GT Championship. Designed by former F1 designer Paul Brown, the A10 was intended to be Ascari's third road car following the Ecosse and KZ1. However, despite plans for a 50-unit production run, it never reached mass production.
Under the hood, the A10 boasts a formidable 5.0-liter BMW V8 engine, delivering a staggering 625 horsepower. This power is transmitted to the road through a six-speed manual gearbox, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds, with a top speed of 220 mph. The car's carbon fiber chassis, borrowed from the KZ1, is complemented by new bodywork and racing-derived suspension. Its design features a large, curvy carbon fiber wing and three projector-style lamps replacing the single headlights, contributing to its distinct and aggressive appearance.
Aesthetically, the Ascari A10 is a marvel of modern engineering. It sits on alloy spokes and carbon fiber rims with Michelin tires, and its braking system includes ventilated ceramic discs clamped by racing calipers. The interior is equipped with lightweight racing seats, carbon fiber door panels, electric windows, climate control, and a remote central lock system. Despite its race car lineage, it lacks some luxuries like soundproofing and air conditioning, yet includes safety features like a fire extinguisher kit and an FIA-approved integral roll cage.
In terms of specifications, the A10 is a super sport coupe, measuring 169.3 inches in length, 72.9 inches in width, and 44.8 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 103.8 inches. It weighs 2822 lbs and features a V8 engine with a displacement of 4941 cc. This engine produces a torque of 413 lb-ft at 5500 rpm.
The Ascari A10's performance caught public attention when it was featured on the UK show "Top Gear" in December 2007. The Stig drove the A10 around the track in 1:17.3, making it the fastest car at the time and, as of 2023, the 21st fastest.
With its limited production run of only 50 units and a price tag of 350,000 GBP, the Ascari A10 has become a coveted collector's item, admired for its world-class performance and innovative design.
